Fr. Stanley Jaki RIP

Father Stanley Jaki died on April 7th, 2009. Fr. Jaki was one of my favorite priests, even though I never met him, because he was a physicist and a philosopher as well. Father Jaki was a Benedictine priest, but it caused him no end of vexation that everyone assumed he must be a Jesuit. Father Jaki had a Ph.D. in physics from Fordham in addition to the usual philosophical and theological training a priest of his era received.

I greatly enjoyed Father Jaki's work on the philosophy of science. I based my lecture on science and religion in part on his work, and I would say he has been fairly influential on my thinking in this area. Father Jaki also had an appreciation for G. K. Chesterton, so it is no wonder I liked him.

A good round up of information about his life and death can be found at Real Physics.
